Friesland Kabel shapes the first Maritime Future Concept for the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

We proudly reflect on the publication of the first Maritime Future Concept for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – a groundbreaking document which defines the strategic direction for the maritime economy of our state. It serves as a blueprint for sustainable growth, technological innovation, and economic stability.

This concept, developed collaboratively by the state government, industry experts, scientists, and business partners, addresses all key areas of the maritime economy – from shipping and maritime tourism to renewable energies and issues related to maritime infrastructure and technological development.

Malte Witowski, managing director of Friesland Kabel GmbH, is an honorary member of the Committee on Maritime Economy of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and personally contributed to shaping the maritime future concept. "I am delighted to have been able to contribute to this concept. I am particularly proud to have significantly influenced and shaped the section on the maritime supply industry and naval shipbuilding. Both sectors are of central importance for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and for us at Friesland Kabel. They combine highly specialized expertise with a robust value chain and secure numerous jobs in the region. The resilience of supply chains is also crucial. Through close cooperation between businesses, research institutions, and the state government, we are creating a foundation to strengthen and sustainably expand competitiveness in these key industries."

The Maritime Future Concept goes far beyond describing the status quo. It outlines a vision for the coming decades and defines concrete measures to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, technological transformation, and growing international competition. The strategy is not just a roadmap for the maritime economy but also serves as a model for strategic economic development for the entire state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

"I am convinced, this concept will make Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania a leader in the maritime economy in the long term. Together, we are shaping a future that is not only economically strong but also ecologically and socially responsible", said Malte Witowski.
